Each registered domain has no less than 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a specific web hosting provider. This way, you have both your site and your emails managed by the same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, like A and MX. The former reveals which server manages the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, when you type a domain address in your Internet browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you may be forwarded to the servers of a different company if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain address. Having separate records for the site and the emails means that you may have your website and your emails with two different providers if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting account through our company and you wish to switch either your site or your e-mails to a different service provider, it's going to take you literally only two mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it won't take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you change or create will not take more than several hours and if needed, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for each of your domain names or subdomains is incredibly easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are maintained via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't experience any troubles if you decide to point your site or emails to a different service provider while keeping the second service with our company. If needed, you can also create additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
